> Research interests

My research aims at unravelling the evolutionary forces underlying the adaptation of populations and the emergence of new species, using population genetics and genomics approaches combined with field experiments. I study both short and long evolutionary timescales (domestication and wild species divergence, respectively) to investigate the ecological factors and genomic processes underlying adaptation. To this end, I have used contrasted plant biological systems: diploid perennial outcrossers, including domesticated crops (figs, apples, peonies and apricots) and wild species (carnations), as well as an annual selfer, Capsella bursa-pastoris.

My research is now also moving toward the study of plant biotic interactions, which are fundamental to our understanding of biodiversity and adaptation; research over the past decades has indeed clearly demonstrated that interactions between species are major drivers of adaptive evolution. In this regard, I studied fig-wasp mutualism and I am now focusing on two plant-parasite systems, the anther-smut fungus castrating Caryophyllaceae and aphids parasitizing apples. The latter is now my main research focus as a recently hired young CNRS principal investigator.
I am indeed initiating a project on the adaptive genomics of apple-aphid interactions in the context of domestication.  This project aims at understanding the impact of apple domestication on the adaptation of a major apple aphid pest Dysaphis plantaginea (the rosy apple aphid), to its apple hosts in Eurasia, the cultivated (Malus domestica) and wild apples (Malus sylvestris, Malus sieversii and Malus orientalis).
